About the Editors


    William F. Fry, Jr., MD, is a behavioral scientist and psychiatrist.  He has conducted studies of numerous aspects of humor, mirth, and laughter since 1953 as an original member of the Gregory Bateson Research Project team, and as a member of the clinical faculty of Stanford University Medical School.  He is Emeritus Associate Clinical Professor at Stanford, Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry.  He has authored over 100 articles, chapters, and forewords on the subject of humor, as well as other scientific subjects.  He has been a cartoonist for the San Francisco Press Club and author of a weekly wine and travel newspaper column.  He is author of Sweet Madness: A Study of Humor and co-author (with Dr. Melanie Allen) of Make 'em laugh.
    In addition to this work, he and Dr. Salemeh co-edited Handbook of Humor and Psychotherapy: Advances in the Clinical Use of Humor (both published by Professional Resource Press).
    Dr. Fry is married and he and his wife have two sons and a daughter.  He lives in the Sierra Nevada mountain foothills, in a small pine forest, where he plays tennis, pans for gold, and attempts to slow the passage of time.

    Waleed A. Salameh, PhD,  is a clinical psychologist, organizational consultant, and international trainer in private practice in San Diego, California.  His training focuses on restructuring organizational settings to further productive emotional communication and humorous interactions, and on developing humorous and integrative approaches to human change.
    His areas of clinical interest include the expression of emotion in children and adults, and the exploration of innovative modalities to effective psychotherapeutic interventions.
    In 1985, Dr. Salameh was awarded the Milton H. Erickson Institute of San Diego award in recognition of his contributions to the field of strategic interventions.  His publications include over 140 articles, presentations, clinical handbooks, and invited chapters in the areas of psychotherapy and effective communications.  He was co-editor with Dr. William F. Fry of the Handbook of Humor and Psychotherapy:  Advances in the Clinical Use of Humor published in 1987 by Professional Resource Press.  Dr. Salameh is currently completing a book on effective emotional expression in adults.
